It is 9th February, 2019, the fifth day of the first lunar month. Early in the morning, the sun shone through the clouds, which made us feel warm and sweet! It was the second day of our study tour and we were going to visit the world-famous university--Stanford University and Intel Museum located in Silicon Valley!
After breakfast, we packed up and set off. It took about an hour to get to Stanford University by car. We were so excited to listen to the tour guide explain the scenic spots along the way. Everyone couldn’t contain the excitement when passing Facebook’s Headquarters!
Along the way, we learned about the traffic conditions and housing price standards of San Francisco as well as some famous middle schools!
After arriving at Stanford University, we learnt that Stanford University, whose full name was Leland Stanford Junior University, was called Stanford for short. It is a world-renowned private research university, located in Palo Alto City in the south of San Francisco bay area of California in the United States, close to Silicon Valley, the world-famous high-tech park and covering an area of about 33 square kilometers (8,180 acres). Stanford University is the second largest university in the world by area. According to relevant statistics, up to October, 2018, a total of 83 Stanford alumni, professors and researchers have won Nobel prizes, ranking 7th in the world. 27 Stanford alumni have won the Turing Award (the highest prize in computing), ranking first in the world. Eight have won the Fields Medal (the supreme award in mathematics), ranking 8th worldwide. From 2018 to 2019, Stanford University ranked second in ARWU World University Academic Rankings and QS World University Rankings and ranked third both in Thames Higher Education World University Rankings and USNews World University Rankings.
After the visit to the cradle of the elite, we were reluctant to leave and came to the world-renowned Intel Headquarters. From here, students learned about Intel’s glorious development in the core technology field from 1968 to 2002. Some students could see the time-honored 4004 microprocessor, the familiar Pentium series processor and the latest Nehalem processor. Some others even personally experienced the power of technology!
After visiting the Intel Museum and Silicon Valley, the world innovation center, we took our luggage and flew to Los Angeles!
